We really love this area in the Westend. As my parents put it, we stay in the Shenton Way of Frankfurt. It is absolutely safe at night - what with a police van parked outside a building opposite our block, of course! Besides, we've got the Palmengarten behind us and the Senckenberg Museum 10 minutes' walk away - great hang-outs with the kids. Shopping is convenient too with the city centre even within walking distance... what can I just complain about?
Just about this one! This is the construction on the other side of our backyard. See the taller building? That used to be the previous American Consulate. It's been moved to a more remote area where security can be tightened. You see, we're smacked right in the middle of the city and the street we live on is quite a busy one during the day. So if there were increased security measures here, then no one would ever get to work in the banks in the city on time. So after the consulate moved, this was acquired by a private developer and two more residential buildings will be added to this part of the map by fall this year.
Let's just hope that the construction will be completed as planned... coz it's really no joke to be living next to a building site! We had almost 10 months of peace before men in yellow helmets started working in our backyard. And we certainly do not look forward to living with this noise for the rest of our stay here. In the meanwhile, our ultra light sleeper in the family - Kristin - has got used to the drumming noise. Phew! Imagine those tormenting times when she was woken up by the drilling and hacking clangs...
